The government knows AGI is coming

I really enjoyed this interview with Ben Buchanan, a top adviser on A.I. in the Biden White House. Just to share 2 things that stood out for me:

• This idea that safety and opportunity aren’t necessarily antagonistic - they use the example of the early days of railroads in America in the late 1800s and explain how the safety standards is what made the railroads work. But also admit too much cautious can choke the process. An interesting comment about it was “breaking things and fixing them vs moving too slowly and never having the opportunity to fix them.”

• Policies start with intellectual exercises yet we struggle to find / have access to these currently. I for one really share the disappointment in the quality of the thinking right now. So if anyone has an article or podcast that dives into this, please share them!
