I have unfortunately being dealing with extremely painful neighbours as of late. So feeling at a loss about how to resolve things, I decided to relisten to this amazing episode. Honestly one of my favourite episodes of ALL TIMES! Yes! Listen to it. Like, right now. You’ll thank me later. Negotiation expert Misha Glouberman shares insights on effective communication strategies to foster mutual understanding and avoid common pitfalls in discussions... need I say anymore?
Ok I will share my notes:
Prioritize Understanding Over Winning: Approach conversations with the goal of comprehending the other person's perspective rather than trying to win the argument. This mindset fosters openness and reduces defensiveness.
Ask Open-Ended Questions: Encourage dialogue by posing questions that require more than yes-or-no answers. This technique helps uncover underlying beliefs and values, facilitating deeper understanding.
Manage Emotional Responses: Be aware of emotional triggers during discussions. Staying calm and composed allows for more productive conversations and helps prevent escalation into unproductive debates.
I'm feeling positive about my next encounter with the neighbours!
