An Era of Stagnation & Universal Institutional Failure, with Peter Thiel

Living outside Washington DC, I have to say that the idea of watching an interview with Peter Thiel is a hard sell -- all the more once I say that it was almost 3 hours. ;) In the spirit of this community, also have to ask why there is no name associated the share, because without more context, it feels like a trip wire. If the motivation for the share, for example, was to spark a conversation on political correctness, I might suggest other articles/resources that don't spotlight a particular person. Or is the intent to spark a conversation about him specifically?

In short, I'm not opposed to an open conversation but need way more transparency about which conversation, exactly, the sharer is trying to have and why. People contain multitudes, including Peter Thiel. My concern, however, is that within his multitudes are very strong views that one interview cannot possibly be source enough from which to have an informed conversation.

Thank you for such a thoughtful response, Chrissy. I really appreciate you taking the time to explain where you’re coming from. When the share doesn’t have a name, it’s because it’s me sharing! When I started I was the only one sharing and didn’t want to see my name all over the library! But I could definitely sign at the bottom of my post - will do it moving forward.
My intention definitely wasn’t to start a conversation about Peter Thiel as a person, nor to endorse his views (not that I am across all of these). It was more that I came across an interview that challenged some of my own assumptions, and I thought there were several interesting ideas worth discussing.
One of the things I hope we can do here on TTA is engage with ideas even when they come from people we disagree with. I do think it’s important for us all to engage with content that we might not agree with and I would encourgae member to not just dismiss it/not engage with it but on the contrary to explain specifically what they do not agree with. This is for me just as interesting as exoressing what you do agree with and why.
I also take your point about context. I deliberately left my commentary fairly open because I wanted people to arrive at it with their own reactions, but I can see how adding a little more about why I chose it might have been helpful.
And you’re absolutely right that a single interview isn’t enough to understand someone. My hope was never that this would be the definitive source on Peter Thiel, only that it might spark discussion around some of the ideas raised. If you have some better articles about political correctness or other themes this interview covers, please do share!!
