Before we dive in Rupert, tell us a little bit about yourself!
I’m from a sheep and cattle station near Muttaburra, out in the Queensland bush, school by radio, distance always part of the landscape. I now live on the sunny coast. I’m working across a few things that really energise me. I’m a partner in an AI company called Holly AI, and I’m launching an agricultural real estate venture, The Farm, helping natural capital funds and institutional investors support Australian agriculture.
What’s something you’ve changed your mind about recently?
I’ve changed my mind about the carnivore diet. I grew up on a farm and I do eat meat, but I no longer think it should dominate your whole diet. It’s not the be-all and end-all.
Who is someone you admire, and why?
I really admire David Attenborough. He’s dedicated his life to the natural world and brought it into our living rooms with so much care and humility. No ego, no frills, just a genuine commitment to the planet.
An idea that deserves more attention?
I think the idea of healing deserves far more attention. Specifically doing the inner work to understand what shaped you in those early years (zero to seven). Everyone has some kind of early conditioning or trauma, whatever their upbringing. Dealing with it helps you live more peacefully, rather than letting your subconscious or ego run the show.
What's something exciting you're working on?
I’m also helping set up a “rugby in the bush” tournament in Longreach ahead of the Rugby World Cup. And I'm about to launch a podcast (in Feb), The Cosmic Cowboys, where I get to explore ideas, stories and voices that span outback life, innovation, identity and what it means to belong in a changing world
