OK, so I recently shared one of Professor Caplan’s lectures on The Myth of the Rational Voter and for those who listened, I hope you enjoyed it!
Afterwards, I went down a little rabbit hole and found this episode on his book, "The Case Against Education: Why the Education System Is a Waste of Time and Money". The title is so provocative I just couldn’t resist. And to my biggest disbelief… a lot of what he said didn’t feel totally insane.
Now, I had all the same doubts and objections you’re probably thinking right now. Luckily, the host does a solid job of raising those challenges along the way. But if you stick with it, and really try to listen with a flexible mind, you might find (as I did) that parts of his argument actually make sense.
I won’t spoil it any further, but I’d love to hear your own reactions. Worst case scenario? It’s an infuriating listen and a great exercise in sitting with “the other side” 😅 Don’t thank me, you’re the one who joined this group!
PS: At the end, he mentions he’ll only write a book if it’s about an idea that goes against what everyone thinks. I love that approach, it’s kind of the perfect “Think Again” spirit.
