This podcast really blew my mind! Aza Raskin, co-founder of the Center for Humane Technology and of the Earth Species Project, and his team, are using Artificial Intelligence to decode the language of animals, from whales to crows, while remaining dedicated to ensuring A.I. remains safe and responsibly handled. I loved hearing about how animals communicate to one another and organise their little communities the same way we do. Fascinating and such important work.
Thank you for sharing this - I must admit that I am with the interviewer in being a tad sceptical of some of the animal studies he was citing, but I esp loved the second half of the interview when Aza Raskin talked about the importance of a type of listening that anticipates the consequences of every new tech creation. As the guy who invented the infinite scroll, Aza Raskin knows better than anyone how a relatively innocent, locally-designed product (for a specific purpose) can be exploited and manipulated within hte attention economy and harnessed for ill (i.e. feeding into addiction and doom-scrolling). He's an impressive guy - and I am not surprised that he works so closely with Tristan…
