Sas's Share: Does Britain value culture any more? by Zadie Smith

ree

From Sas: I am pretty obsessed with innovation and technology, and am increasingly interested in business and economics, but this piece by the British writer Zadie Smith reminded me of the importance of the Humanities and all that is precious about human creativity.

It is about cuts to the British Library and talks about current issues in Britain, but you will no doubt see that it carries relevance to all nations, especially those that are increasingly valuing business and technology over human creativity and the arts.

Some context for non-British readers: supporters of the far right in the UK have been tying English flags (a red cross on a white background) to lampposts as a sign of patriotism and anti-immigration.
