From Leah: The Body Keeps The Score - Being my first post I wanted to share a work that did change my perspective on the way humans work. Focusing on specifically trauma, The Body Keeps The Score focuses on the physical effects that trauma causes the mind and body, right down to a chemical level. This book doesn't only offer facts, but different methods that help reduce the effects of trauma and the mental health problems that arise alongside it. The book has so much information in it, but it never felt overwhelming. It's quite hard to explain how special this book is, but my therapist recommended it to me and it remains my favorite book even a few years later.

I'm so glad you shared this, Leah. I've 'read' an audiobook on a similar subject ('It didn't start with you' by Mark Wolynn), which blew my mind and I never really got to properly debrief on it. I'm not sure if this is also relevant to 'The body keeps score' but I recall there were questions around the scientific validity of the studies and popular understanding of trauma epigenetics. On the other hand, it's encouraging to see the scientific community starting to engage with something that appears to have been practised and preached in many cultures for centuries.
