Is AI apocalypse inevitable? Tristan Harris

Another thought-provoking video that really made me think again about AI. I only wish Harris had gone further into practical solutions (I’ll be digging into those myself and will report back).

Still, I have to admit this struck a chord. Especially his point that “no one is sitting in a room with a bunch of people figuring out how to solve this problem.” Really?! That’s a concern.

At the same time, I don’t believe doom is inevitable. Maybe it’s naïve, but I hold onto some optimism that not everyone working on these technologies is a “bad guy.”

This was excellent. I agree that it would have been helpful to have some more practical solutions. At least he mentioned general options such as sharing info among companies about where A.I. is uncontrollable, restricting companion chatbots for kids, product liability for the harms, ensure we protect our privacy so that when A.I. goes awol each person is relatively protected. It does feel quite overwhelming if you think too much about it, doesn’t it?!
