I stumbled on this after recently joining X*, where I’ve made a conscious effort to follow a wide mix of people, including many I don’t agree with. It’s been a good exercise to 1. get access to content I never see, 2. listen/read more deeply and reflect on different perspectives.
I came across this interview with Argentina’s President, Javier Milei, discussing the country’s recent economic reforms. Regardless of political leanings, it’s intriguing to see how these policies have impacted Argentina’s economy. I’m sharing this to explore different approaches to economic challenges and would love to hear your thoughts on the potential lessons or cautions we might draw from Argentina’s experience.
What stood out to me (beyond the numbers, which I can't recall tbh! ha!) was the scale and speed of the change, including plans to privatise services like media, health, and education. It raises big questions about what happens when a state pulls back this dramatically. What’s gained? what’s lost? and who carries the burden?
I need to add that Politics and economics really aren’t my area of expertise (I’ve had to pause and rewind a few times just to follow parts of this interview) so consider this a genuine attempt to learn. And if anyone has a well-written, accessible piece that explores the other side, I’d love for you to share it.
