A short one with interesting insights into intergenerational communication and understanding. My 3 take-aways:
1. Move Beyond Superficial Age Diversity
It's not enough to have multiple generations present in an organisation; meaningful connections between them are essential. McCann emphasises the importance of creating synergies among different age groups to enhance collaboration and innovation.
2. Implement Intergenerational Mentoring
Organisations can benefit from programmes like reverse mentoring, where younger employees mentor older ones, and shadow boards that allow younger staff to contribute to decision-making processes. These initiatives help bridge generational gaps and leverage diverse perspectives.
3. Address and Challenge Age Stereotypes
Stereotypes about different generations can hinder workplace harmony. McCann suggests that organisations should actively work to combat ageism by promoting inclusive communication and recognising the unique strengths each generation brings to the table.
