Ailsa's Share: Faith, Hope and Carnage - Nick Cave, Seán O’Hagan

From Ailsa: I listened to the audiobook of Faith, Hope and Carnage - a conversation between journalist Sean O’Hagan and my current musical obsession Nick Cave. O’Hagan interviews Cave about his life, art (whether it be music, fine art, and ceramics), and faith, in light of the death of Cave’s son. One notion that stuck with me since finishing the book is the role of grief in our lives - how it consistently acts both as a propellant and a hindrance at different points. It never really ends from the moment a death occurs, becoming a start/stop force that affects everyone, ubiquitously and indiscriminately. Cave articulates the impact of grief on his life beautifully in this book, and I particularly appreciated hearing his thoughts in his own voice. I’ve shared the Spotify link, but it’s also available on Audible and in the form of physical books of course :)
